A 15 minute piece for unaccompanied choir composed on the poem “Breath” by Pulitzer laureate, Philip Levine (from New Selected Poems). Commissioned by The Crossing, Donald Nally, conductor, with funding from The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through the Philadelphia Music Project. Premiered 7/17/10 at Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, PA.
Who hears the humming
of rocks at great height,
the long steady drone
of granite holding together,
the strumming of obsidian
