At Last – chamber orchestra, laptop, 2.5'

SymphoNYC, conducted by Paul Haas | | perc | str
Commissioned by Sympho. Premiered 5/22/10 by SymphoNYC with Paul Haas (cond.) at The Church for All Nations, NY, NY.

The song we all know well (by Warren and Gordon): arranged for Sympho's TWEETHEART concert based on audience submissions. This arrangement uses the tenor aria from Verdi's “Rigoletto Quartet” (heard earlier in the concert), and suggests a musical texture from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet (also heard earlier). It's as though "At Last" is the full consummation of all the passions sought after so feverishly by the quartet of lovers of Rigoletto: lust, surrender, love, and revenge.
